Sapphire Celebration Gala Supports Medical Scholarships and Leaders

A former Chicago physician, Dr. Angelo Consiglio now treats patients at his solo practice in Marathon, Florida. Angelo Consiglio, MD, is also an assistant professor of otolaryngology at Florida International University’s Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine (HWCOM).

HWCOM recently hosted its Sapphire Celebration Gala at the Trump National Doral Miami to support future physicians. At the second annual celebration, more than 500 civic, medical, business, and philanthropic leaders gathered from around south Florida to support HWCOM, and the event raised more than $330,000 to fund student scholarships.

The 2014 black-tie event featured a “White Coats & Dreams” theme and, along with scholarship fundraising, honored organizations and individuals who made significant contributions to the medical field. To recognize leaders in the industry, the Sapphire Celebration Gala presented awards like the Dr. Herbert Wertheim Global Medical Leadership Award, the Ambassador Steven & Dorothea Green Community Leadership Award, and the Benjamín León Jr. Founding Dean’s Award.
