The American Cancer Society Coaches vs. Cancer

Chicago native Angelo Consiglio, MD, is an ear, nose, and throat specialist at Allergy Ear, Nose and Throat, Inc., in the Key West, Florida, area. In addition to his professional life, Dr. Angelo Consiglio supports a number of charity organizations, including the American Cancer Society.

The American Cancer Society was founded in 1913 by a group of physicians and businessmen who were committed to raising cancer awareness. Throughout its history, the organization has worked to make groundbreaking discoveries and save countless lives through research, awareness, and early detection.

The Cancer Society created a program called Coaches vs. Cancer, a collaboration with the National Association of Basketball Coaches to enlist coaches and their teams to help in the fight against cancer. Every year since 1995, a Coaches vs. Cancer Classic Champions tournament has been held in November. Twelve teams compete, and four teams advance to play at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, New York, the weekend before Thanksgiving. The Coaches vs. Cancer Classic Champions is one of the most prestigious early-season tournaments and is an important fundraiser for the cancer campaign.
