Balloon Sinuplasty – New Treatment for Sinus Problems

Balloon sinuplasty

Dr. Angelo Consiglio practices otolaryngic medicine at his practice in Marianna, Florida. As an ear, nose, and throat doctor, Angelo Consiglio, MD, focuses on allergies and ailments of the head and neck, including sinus problems.

Balloon sinuplasty, also called balloon sinus dilation, is a relatively new procedure used to treat ailments of the sinuses. The process can relieve sinus headaches, congestion, and issues with smelling or tasting.

The minimally invasive procedure can be conducted in a doctor’s office. The patient receives local anesthesia, and a balloon catheter is then threaded into the affected sinus. The balloon is inflated, which expands the sinus cavity. A saline solution is sprayed into the region, flushing out mucus.

When the balloon is removed, the sinus is open and clear. The full process can be completed in one session, eliminating the need for sinus surgery or medication.

Long-Distance Bike Ride

Angelo Consiglio, MD, has provided care to many patients over the course of more than a decade as an ear, nose, and throat physician. Long bike rides give you the chance to get out and see more of the world, but there are a few things to keep in mind to ensure you’re prepared for the ride.

1. Pedal smart and maintain a regular cadence that stays in the 90rpm (revolutions per minute) range. Pacing yourself will play a large role in your success.

2. Make sure you eat and drink when you need to, but also take care not to consume too much, which can leave you feeling bloated. Furthermore, drinking too much water can cause you to cramp up quicker.

3. Be wary of the wind, especially when riding on the road. If you feel shaky on the bike, it may be best to stop for a while until things calm down.

With more than 30 years of experience as an otolaryngologist, Dr. Angelo Consiglio serves the ear, nose, and throat needs of patients throughout Jackson County, Florida. Angelo Consiglio, MD, maintains a strong presence in his professional community and has presented on disorders of the vocal folds as they relate to larynx anatomy and physiology.

Also known as the vocal cords, the vocal folds constitute two distinct smooth muscle tissue bands contained within the voice box, or larynx. Situated within the neck at the top of the windpipe (trachea) the cords vibrate air that is passed upward from the lungs and provide resonance. This resonance is determined by the specific configurations of the throat, nose, and mouth.

Common causes of vocal cord disorder include laryngitis, an inflammation due to heartburn, infection, or excessive use of the voice. Another issue that particularly affects professional singers involves vocal nodules, which develop as a pair on the vocal cord areas that can be strained as they come together and vibrate. The end result is a voice that is low, hoarse, and breathy.

Another relatively common issue is vocal cord paralysis, in which one or both of the cords is unable to open or close as required. Related to a variety of underlying conditions, from stroke to chest or neck injury, this condition may make it difficult to cough and swallow, and allow unwanted foods and liquids into the windpipe and lungs.

In addition to caring for patients in his work as an ear, nose, and throat physician, Angelo Consiglio, MD, has coached youth sports. Dr. Angelo Consiglio has worked with a number of youth baseball teams, including St. Francis High School’s summer league baseball team. To succeed in youth sports coaching, it is important to exhibit the following qualities.

1. Patience is crucial as youth players may not always follow instructions as quickly as or consistently you would like. You may also need to deal with children’s big emotions and offer more in-depth explanations to players so they understand their roles in the team.

2. A strong thirst for knowledge about the game you coach is also important. After all, it is difficult to relay instructions and information to youngsters if you don’t really understand the game yourself.

3. A good youth sports coach will also be on the lookout for team building opportunities outside of regular practices and games. Examples of team building range from going out to eat as a team after a game or attending outside events together as a group to simpler gestures, like encouraging team members to give each other high fives. This shows the youngsters the importance of coming together so they can work on common goals.

The Causes and Symptoms of Pollen-Related Allergies

A well-established Marianna, Florida, ear, nose, and throat physician, Dr. Angelo Consiglio also serves as an assistant professor of otolaryngology at Florida International University. Angelo Consiglio, MD, has extensive experience in assisting patients with allergy issues, many of which are triggered by inhaling pollen.

Also known as allergic rhinitis, hay fever is prevalent during pollen season, which can extend months. Whereas the wind typically spreads pollen for weeds and wild grasses, birds and bees usually distribute it for flowering plants. For the susceptible, airborne pollen activates an unwanted immune response that causes chronic inflammation extending throughout the nasal passages and causing itchiness and congestion. Additionally, the eyes may become watery, red, itchy, and irritated and headaches occur.

Pollen contains small particulate irritants that may also lodge deep in the windpipe and trigger asthma, which involves wheezing and tightness of breath. Avoiding such allergies begins with staying indoors on peak pollen days, including those that are windy. Medical treatments range from intranasal corticosteroid sprays and antihistamines to long-term physician-directed immunotherapy regimens.

How Human Chorionic Gonadotropin Promotes Weight Loss

The owner of a solo ear, nose, and throat practice in Marianna, Florida, Angelo Consiglio, MD, provides dedicated care to his patients. Dr. Angelo Consiglio has also received training in weight loss management, including via human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) for rapid weight loss.

Through the HCG diet, individuals can lose up to a pound a day, yet much debate has existed about whether this loss is facilitated by HCG or by the dramatic reduction in calories called for by the diet. However, it has become clear that HCG plays a critical role in reducing feelings of hunger. Also, as a pro-hormone, HCG promotes additional hormone synthesis in the body, which can address the hormone deficiencies or imbalances that often underlie weight gain.

The fact that HCG elevates hormone levels is key to successful weight loss because it creates an anabolic state in the body, which encourages muscle building. With normal fasting, muscle rather than fat accounts for much of the weight lost because the body is in a catabolic state. Since HCG prevents muscle loss, more fat is lost due to the restricted calorie intake.

Based in Marianna, Florida, Angelo Consiglio, MD, treats patients for diverse ear, nose, and throat conditions. Dr. Angelo Consiglio has extensive experience in the management of allergies, which are often related to minute particles in the air and may cause persistent sinus issues.

Prevalent triggers include airborne allergens such as dust and dust mites, which can cause wheezing and constant sneezing and affect approximately one-half of homes nationwide. The indoor area should be regularly cleaned as a way of avoiding dust buildup.

Another major home issue is the dander from cats’ and dogs’ coats, as well as their mucus and saliva. Pet-related allergic reactions often develop over a period of months or years and can linger for an extended period after the animal is gone. Vacuum and steam cleaners, air purifiers, and bedding specifically designed to combat allergens are among the products available to alleviate pet-related allergic reactions.

Another common home issue is mold, which flourishes in dark, damp, confined areas such as basements and closets. The reactions triggered by mold can be particularly severe, and dehumidifiers should be set in place wherever such conditions exist.
